Apple Watch Series 3

Is it worth buying a two year old Apple Watch in 2019?
If you own an iPhone and are looking for a smartwatch, than the best solution is to purchase an Apple Watch. The Apple Watch series 3 is a great entry point for first adopters, and still is a great buy for those upgrading from a series 1 or 2 Apple Watch.
"With Apple, the activity challenges weigh into overall calories, exercise minutes and standing. The way the challenges are setup creates better engagement than to just “out walk” your counterpart.”

A huge positive with the Apple Watch is tracking overall fitness while wearing the watch. Since there is a huge population of Apple Watch owners, this is a fantastic way of pushing your peers to work out by utilizing different challenges. With other smartwatches that I have owned, the only challenge I’ve partaken is if you can outstep the other person. With Apple, the activity challenges weigh into overall calories, exercise minutes and standing. The way the challenges are setup creates better engagement than to just “out walk” your counterpart. Another perk is having the ability to send and receive phone calls via the watch. I am not always glued to my phone, so when receiving calls, I am able to answer on the watch and hold a conversation through the speaker of the device. There are a ton of fantastic features with the Series 3 Apple Watch. One that really stood out to me though was the ability to watch video messages directly from the watch. I did not receive a message stating that I have a video message waiting for me, but rather was able to directly watch it on my wrist.
“I firmly believe that Apple could grab hold of the smartwatch ecosystem by having the ability to have a tailored down version that is compatible with other devices.”
There are a couple of issues that I have found with the Apple watch, and with Apple in general. The first being the heart rate sensor. Yes it is better than most, but I still found myself having to re-adjust the positioning of the watch on my wrist to get a proper read of my heart rate. The issue becomes a little more glaring when trying to workout. The other issue that I have is that the watch is only compatible with Apple products. I firmly believe that Apple could grab hold of the smartwatch ecosystem by having the ability to have a tailored down version that is compatible with other devices. You see this with other smartwatch devices (Fitbit, Samsung Gear, etc.) but not Apple.
You cannot go wrong purchasing the Apple watch series 3 in 2019. The software is outstanding as well as a chipset that still holds up to this day. This purchase price is also $200 less than the series 5 that currently is for sale. If you can deal without the always on display and the ECG heart rate sensor, I would say purchase this product if you are in the market for an Apple Watch.
