iPad Air (3rd Generation)

Is the iPad Air the best all around iPad for the modern day user?

iPad Air (3rd Generation)

The iPad Air offers the best of both worlds in terms of a high powered chipset mixed in a much lower price point compared to its counterpart iPad Pro.

Specs:

  • A12 Bionic chip

  • 10.5-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit Multi-Touch Retina display

  • 8-megapixel back camera/ 7 Megapixel front camera

  • 64 GB/256 GB Models

Good:

When unboxing the iPad Air, the first thing I immediately noticed was how slim and lightweight the actual tablet is compared to the entry level iPad. Another difference between the two is the screen. Since it is a fully laminated display, you can tell the difference in the screen when they are placed side by side. Minus the iPad Pro, this is the by far the best retina display I have ever seen on an iPad.

The iPad OS is an operating system that takes full advantage of the tablet’s features. Utilizing the OS gives the familiar feel of the iPhone, but it can also be customized to give the appearance/feeling of an iMac. On the side of the iPad there are 3 connection prongs that you could attach a smart keyboard to. Doing so gives you the ability to utilize a keyboard without worrying about the battery dying. This gives a significant advantage over bluetooth keyboards, as well as the lag that it can carry. Since using the new iPad, I have been using my PC’s and Mac computers less frequently for my daily drivers. This truly can handle everything I typically do on a day to day basis.

Bad:

Being used to having an iPhone with FaceID, not having the ability to tap to wake the iPad is a minor inconvenience. I just don’t know why this simple feature was not added. Also, even though Apple is trying to become more budget friendly, the new iPad Air’s could have at least added an updated camera. Even putting the camera from the iPhone 6s would have been an upgrade...The iPhone 6s.

Overall:

Overall the iPad Air is a great choice for users who would like to upgrade their tablets, but would like to have the performance to use your iPad as a computer. Just don’t anticipate taking high quality pictures with it.
